AutoStore wins Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Award 2023

SINGAPORE, [January 9, 2024] — 10 November 2023 saw AutoStore announced as the winner of the 2023 Australian Supply Chain & Logistics (ASCL) Award in the category of Automation, Robotics or Emerging Technology, at a gala dinner held in Sydney. The company was also named as a finalist for the Environmental Excellence Award.  

The annual awards, hosted by the Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA), recognize and celebrate the achievements of the industry’s professionals and organisations. “We are delighted with our award for Automation, Robotics or Emerging Technology, received just one year after the company officially opened offices in the APAC region,” says Jason Wu, Business Development Manager, AutoStore Australia and New Zealand.

Inaugurated in 2021, the Award for Automation, Robotics or Emerging Technology recognizes the impact of robotics, automation, wearables and other emerging technology on the supply chain industry. As the latest recipient for this award, AutoStore has demonstrated how its solutions have had a measurable positive impact on their customers’ businesses.

A case study in success

In its winning case study submission for the Awards, AutoStore outlined its solution for local designer, manufacturer and distributor of locks, Davcor Group. Their warehouse system was complex (comprising conveyors, sortation and forklifts along narrow aisles) and prone to intermittent breakdowns. They sought out an automation solution for their new warehouse facility that would enable cost savings while also streamlining their operations and improving working conditions for employees.

The company invested in an AutoStore Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), comprising 14 000 Bins, 14 Robots and 5 CarouselPorts. The system handles 400 orders per day.“Davcor has upgraded their system over the last few years, adding almost 5,000 Bins, as well as additional Robots and Ports. In so doing, they have increased their storage capacity by almost 50% and picking throughput by 200% from its original installation, to support the growth of the business. This demonstrates how the modularity of the AutoStore system enables it to grow with the end user, continuously meeting their evolving needs,” adds Wu.

Making just 1,000 picks on average each day, Davcor found that a lot of high-end automation systems did not suit their business operations. However, the AutoStore system is suitable for businesses of all sizes. The implementation of an AutoStore AS/RS has yielded significant benefits and efficiencies for Davcor. “They achieved ROI in less than two years, as well as a significant reduction in stock losses. In addition, their energy bill has shrunk by 85%, and they reduced their staff training costs and maintenance fees. They benefit from the efficient utilization of their warehouse capacity, and have been able to re-purpose their labour, moving their staff from the warehouse into more strategic roles,” explains Wu.

In addition, Davcor has not recorded a workplace injury in seven years, as staff are no longer required to lift objects or bend repeatedly, and are less fatigued as they no longer traverse a large warehouse.
